They're particle board, but not crumbly; they present my Bose 501s well.

Comments about Sanus Basic 16" Wood Speaker Stands:
Stands are ok for the price. When screwing pieces together with a screw driver the ( Press board ) split on 3 of the 6 that I bought for my 7.1 surround sound system. They looked more stable in pics on site also. They are just ok for my system. I wouldnt buy them again.......

Comments about Sanus Basic 16" Wood Speaker Stands:
I used the stands in my living room for my home theater speakers. They look great, but when I put the stands together, the stands ended up with cracks in the wood after installing the screws. I used a hand held screw driver and screw them in by hand (no power tools). I suspect the pre-drilled holes were not drilled deep enough which cause the wood to split when the screws were installed.

Comments about Sanus Basic 16" Wood Speaker Stands:
These speaker stands are ideal for medium size speakers that need to be elevated and that cannot be wall mounted. Well made and easy to assemble with minimum effort or skills, the floor spikes are a nice feature if required.
At the price and quality they are hard to fault. Recommended

Comments about Sanus Basic 16" Wood Speaker Stands:
I used these stands to raise my rear speakers off of the floor to allow the sounds to not be blocked. They also added a more expensive look to the speakers also, and i was really surprised and satisfied at the results. Set up and assembly was pretty simple, with about 15 minutes on each stand and that's totally not pushing yourself to get it done. Overall this is an excellent item.

Comments about Sanus Basic 16" Wood Speaker Stands:
I read that the stands tend to split when screwing them together, so I was very careful, but mine split as well. It's not that noticable. This is a manufacturer's issue. But these work well for my application, were inexpensive and got my speakers off the floor. I never used the isolation pads; they seemed pretty insubstantial, nor did I use the carpet spikes.

This was the best fit for my setup at this price point. I used it with the front speakers in an Onkyo HTIB setup.
